Company History

In English, the acronym “BMW” translates to “Bavarian Motor Works.” The company was founded in Munich, Germany, over a hundred years ago during the first World War. Initially, they manufactured aircraft engines, which is why their logo consists of propellers against the sky. 

The first motorcycle the company made left their assembly lines only a few years later, in 1923, and automobiles came five years after that. Initially, BMW motorcycles were pedal bicycles with industrial engines anchored to them, but they soon progressed. While the company had to halt production following World War II, it resumed once again afterwards, albeit divided between East and West Germany for the next several decades.
